This was an interesting quote I heard listening to the audio-book “Children of Dune.” I would not consider this world-construct a “survival of the fittest” view, but rather a “method of conquest for conquerors”.

The reason I mention this is because I see this philosophy as an active element for enemies of freedom and democracy. We can’t be ignorant that there are those who exist that will use the ideals of freedom against the free. Therefore, the cause of freedom must have a backing of strength as its foundation. Freedom cannot be a wimpy passiveness. We must be as gentle as doves, but be as wise as serpents.

Tech Tip for today: Did you know you can easily create shortcuts on your desktop to WebPages without all the copy, paste and naming? In Internet Explorer, choose “File,” “Send,” then “Shortcut to Desktop”. That’s it! Now if you have Firefox or Chrome, all you need to do is, left of the “X” button click the “Restore Down” button. Now highlight the address bar link and drag-and-drop it onto the desktop. You’re done :-)

Google: Gmail.com is a great way to establish your Google presence. With a Gmail account, you not only have the ability to send e‐mails to anyone in the world (free), but also have the ability to take advantage of other Google features (www.gmail.com) .

You can setup an IGoogle homepage (http://www.google.com/ig) and add real‐time gadgets like links to your Gmail account, analog clock, news, Youtube clips, weather, and many more… You can even add a gadget that utilizes the free unused space that Gmail allows you; uploading files that you may need to retrieve and a later time.

You can take advantage of Google Calendars and access appointments from any computer’s Web

browser (https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin). You can even share calendars with other Gmail users.

Share pictures on the web with family and friends using “Google Pictures”; aka” Picasa

The FBI recently asked for the power to obtain without warrants, Citizens’ “electronic communication transactional records” including email addresses they used to send communications. If the FBI’s request for warrant-less Internet surveillance is granted, Citizens to avoid federal conspiracy charges will have to report to police (every email) they receive that might allude to anything illegal.

FBI’s request for no warrant Internet surveillance can’t be viewed separately: if pending bills in Congress pass, the FBI can then use its warrant-less Internet surveillance to arrest and indefinitely detain Americans on mere suspicion not evidence, based on their Internet Activity. Private information the FBI derives from warrant-less searches of emails and Internet Activity—could potentially be used by U.S. Government to blackmail, target anyone though government harassment, prosecution or civil asset forfeiture because he or she disagreed with government.

Will lawful Internet Activity, be used by Government to detain/arrest Americans without probable cause? On March 4, 2010, Sen. McCain introduced The “Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010.” McCain’s bill would eliminate several Constitutional protections allowing Government to arbitrarily pick up Americans on mere suspicion—with no probable cause. Under McCain’s bill, your political opinions and statements made on web postings and in emails against U.S. Government and others could be used by authorities to deem you a “hostile” “Enemy Belligerent” to cause your arrest and indefinite detention. U.S. activists and individuals under McCain’s bill would be extremely vulnerable to detention or prosecution, if (charged with suspicion) of “intentionally providing support to hostilities or an Act of Terrorism”, for example American activists can’t control what other activists might do illegally—they network by email domestically and overseas. The Government under McCain’s bill would need only allege an individual kept in military detention, is an Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent suspected of; having engaged in hostilities against the United States; its coalition partners; or Civilians or (has) purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States; its coalition partners or U.S. civilians. Detained Americans can be denied legal counsel.

Alarmingly the Obama Government recently employed a vendor to search Internet social networking sites to collect information about Americans that could potentially be used by this government to injure Americans, for example, if you apply for a federal job, your name might be crossed referenced by the Obama Government with comments you made at Websites against Obama; or if you make application at a bank for a loan the Government has control since the financial crisis, could your Internet comment(s) prevent you getting that loan? Obama’s monitoring of the Internet sites can too easily be used by Government to intimidate, coerce and extort Corporations and Citizens from speaking out.

Obama gave a speech in May 2010 that asked Congress to pass legislation to give the President power, to detain any person in the U.S. that government deems a “combatant” or likely to engage in a violent act in the future. President Obama wants the power to incarcerate U.S. Citizens not on evidence, but for what they might do. Obama wants the power to override the U.S. Constitution, to detain indefinitely any American based on conjecture her or she might do something violent in the future. If Obama’s proposal to detain Americans without probable cause is approved, and FBI is granted warrant-less searches of the Internet, it is foreseeable Government could use anyone’s Internet activity including emails to claim an individual or lawful organization might do something violent in the future to order their indefinite detainment. What the recent Washington Post Report, (Secret America) did not mention: in the U.S., government-private contractors and their operatives work so close with U.S. law enforcement, exchanging information to arrest Americans and or share in the forfeiture of their assets, they appear to have merged with police. Similarly in 1933 Hitler merged his private police the Gestapo with German national security. Before the Gestapo was consolidated with the German Government, the Gestapo arrested Citizens and confiscated private property with no legal authority. However U.S. Government has already granted that power to private U.S. contractors. In 1939 all German Police agencies including the Gestapo were put under the control of the "Reich Main Security Office” the equivalent of U.S. Homeland Security.

Can History repeat itself? Should there be a radical change of U.S. Government, history shows law enforcement is generally not replaced; that police will work for—e.g. a fascist U.S. Government; communist or other despot government—against the interests of Citizens. Note: The German police first worked for a democracy before Hitler; then worked for the Nazi Fascists; then joined the Soviet Union’s East German Police (Stasi) believed to be the world most oppressive police force until the German Wall came down. Consequently it should be expected U.S. Government security contractors and private mercenary corporations would work for a despot U.S. Government.

If FBI warrant-less Internet Spying is approved, it is problematic the FBI will share its spying with law enforcement, government contractors and private individuals that have security clearances to facilitate the arrest and forfeiture of Americans’ property—-to keep part of the bounty. Police too easily can take an innocent person’s hastily written email, Internet fax, phone call or web activity out of context to allege a crime or violation was committed to cause an arrest or confiscation of someone’s property. There are over 200 U.S. laws and violations mentioned in the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000 and the Patriot Act that can subject property to civil asset forfeiture. Under federal civil asset forfeiture laws, a person or business need not be charged with a crime for government to forfeit their property.

Rep. Henry Hyde’s bill HR 1658 passed, the “Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000” and effectively eliminated the “statue of limitations” for Government Civil Asset Forfeiture. The statute now runs five years from when police allege they “learned” that an asset became subject to forfeiture. With such a weak statute of limitations and the low standard of civil proof needed for government to forfeit property “A preponderance of Evidence”, it is problematic law enforcement and private government contractors will want access to FBI, NSA and other government Internet surveillance, including wiretaps perhaps illegal to arrest Americans and to seize their homes, assets and businesses under Title 18USC and other laws.

Of obvious concern, what happens to fair justice in America if police and government contractors become dependent on “Asset Forfeiture” to pay their salaries and operating costs?

Prophecy of the Crucifixion

I believe one of the major testimonies, concerning the connection between the Old & New Testament, is the Old Testament prophecies. System Restore

Your computer is already equipped with the ability to turn back time (not quite like Cher’s song: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/cher/ificouldturnbacktime.html). The good thing is that not all malware programs have found a way to disable it. There could be a possibility to restore your PC to a time before you received the infection.

Go to “Start”, “All Programs”, go up to “Accessories”, “System Tools”, then click “System Restore”. You will see this:

Choose, “Restore my computer to an earlier time”, then click next.

Choose a date that is in bold numbers, and then click next. It will look something like this:

Click next and follow whatever it says. After the computer reboots, it will notify you whether or not the process was successful. Click OK.

When you are done, check to see if your computer seems to be working correctly. Make sure you run Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner in order to clean up any remaining files. Just a Note: Once your computer has become infected, it can be hard to tell if the PC still has vulnerabilities on it. Unfortunately, the only way to know the computer is clean is to back up your files, re-format the hard-drive (totally wipe the PC clean), and re-install the operating system (and all your software). I hope I didn’t scare you too much.

More Temp Stuff

Another place you can clean “without deleting anything important” is the main “Temp” folder. You may not have the ability to delete all its contents because some programs may be actively using them or hidden. Go to “Start”, “Run”; and then type

And press “Enter” or “OK”. You can safely delete everything in this folder. Remember, some items may not be removable.

Another Way In (Windows XP):

Go to “Start”, “Run”; then type (or cut and paste)

C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Cookies

And press “Enter” or “OK”. Delete all you can delete in here. Also, do the same in (Windows XP):

Go to “Start”, “Run”; then type (or cut and paste)

C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

And press “Enter” or “ OK”.

Running CheckDisk

CheckDisk basically checks your hard-drive for problem areas and then quarantines those sectors. Go to “Start”, “My Computer”. Right click on your “C” drive, choose “Properties”.

Choose the “Tools” tab, and then the “Check Now…” button.

Choose both check boxes, click “Start”, then OK, Close everything, then Reboot. This will run the "CheckdDisk" process once it restarts.

Run Defrag

Defrag basicaly resorts the files on the hard-drive (like a filing cabinet). When the files are sorted, they are quicker to find (faster hard-drive access). This may not speed your system up all that much, but it does cut down on hard-drive thrashing.

As above; go to “Start”, “My Computer”, right click on your “C” drive, choose “Properties”, choose the “Tools” tab, and then the “Defragment Now…” button. Now click “Defragment”.

That’s all folks!

Now after all this hard work, we hope you are running a bit better. If anything, your computer will be happier. Kind of like giving it a foot massage.

Have you ever noticed with some computers, as time goes on they get slower and slower. Well, chances are it is not a hardware problem. Personal computers are great for remembering things like web pages visited, recent downloads, and installations. The problem is, as this stuff accumulates all the data begins to bog down performance. Some of these leftovers can be malicious or just break things. Moreover, malware likes to hide in your computer’s “Temp folders.
You can technically clean your “Temp” folders and “Cookies” as often as you like. Personally, I do it once a week. I will also show you how to run a “CheckDisk” and “Defrag” (run both of these probably once every three months or when you get the dreaded “one time” Blue Screen of Death).

Temp Files

Each logon profile has a series of temporary folders for managing a person’s experience. A good practice to get into is cleaning these folders out. Now, if you are cleaning up your work computer you may have only limited ability to do some of what we are discussing here. If you are cleaning your personal machine, you should have more permission available to you.

Empty the cache

1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, then Internet Options, and then click the Delete Files button.2. A Delete Files window will appear. Select the option to Delete all offline content, and then click OK.3. Click Settings and reduce the size of your cache to, say, 50 MB to 100 MB (more if you routinely download very large files).

If there is anything we have learned from the Internet, it is that our computers can get sick, betray us, and become minions at the hands of evildoers. Viruses, worms, and spyware have grown to overlap in their divisiveness. Today, these programs can take‐over a computer and use it to (to name a few):

Went to see Joe Satriani play on Sunday (19, Keswick Theatre Glenside, PA US); what an awesome performance. The Man totally rips on guitar! He also had Leslie West of “Mountain” open for him.

I remember seeing Mountain perform at “Max Myers Park - Oakland St & Magee Ave Philadelphia, PA 19149” in the 80’s.
Get Directions The classic rock guitar player astonished me back then; and again tonight. Both guitarists are masters of their own style of rock. Joe ended the night by asking Leslie West to perform the song “Goin Down” with him. Hearing both these guys trading solos just floored me. Satriani is clearly a leader at commanding his guitar to scream, laugh, cry, and through chunks at will. I kept hearing this little voice telling me “Bob, you need to practice”.

Cuba Gooding Jr.

I’m not sure how people are going to take what I am about to say; but in my opinion, Cuba Gooding Jr. does some of his best work in the movie, “Jerry McGuire” (while a bit coarse). Whether from a comedic or serious point of view, his character of “Rod Tidwell” dramatizes his ability to become whatever a movie needs to be great. The acting I loved the most in the movie was performed by him and Renée Zellweger. This is not to take away from the performance that Bonnie Hunt (a classic actress), or Jonathan Lipnicki (as child) delivered. I just personally feel that Cuba Gooding Jr. takes the audience on that bipolar rollercoaster of believable excitement which carries the movie through its scene.

When a specific volume of fat is weighed against the same volume of muscle, the fat weighs less. This is because the fat has less density than the muscle. For this reason, if we exercise it is feasible to gain weight (due to building muscle), before losing it (by losing more weight in fat).

This shows the importance of a healthy diet (as in, a life of routinely eating right; not a quote, unquote Diet program), and cardiovascular exercise. Cardio exercise focuses on raising the heart rate, which in turn burns fat. This mixed with muscle building exercise can grow calorie burning-muscles that also assist in burning fat.

Yes; this is a balance that I have been struggling with since my heart-attack in June. It is hard for me to keep a healthy diet when having constant gastritis and taking 11 pills every day; five of which are for the chest and stomach pain caused by my inflamed esophagus.

However, maintaining a good balance of exercise, Body Mass Index (BMI), muscle mass, and diet is important for everyone. I have found that joining a Gym and being diligent with scheduling time to go during each week helps. So, when you find yourself gaining a little weight at the beginning of your workout, don’t get discouraged. Press-on and you will begin to see the scale easing its way back down.

Remember, I am not a professional dietitian; so always consult a physician before making changes to your diet and exercise routines.

One Nation under God: Unity in Christ

When I think of the saying, “One Nation under God”, I think of something even more important than the Pledge of Allegiance; rather, the Kingdom of Heaven. In Revelation chapter 21 through 22, the Bible speaks of a new Heaven and a new earth where all nations will come together in unity as the Bride of the Lamb: “…those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life…God’s holy people.” This weighed with Galatians 3:28 (for we are all one in Christ Jesus) and Colossians 3:11 (where everyone is equal in importance when in Christ), it is clear that racial differences are absolutely meaningless. In fact, every form of racism is considered non-Christian. When in Christ, we are new creatures belonging to a new nation and unified under our one true God. More astounding, we are called to love all other believers as the family of Christ, and in so doing, we are witnesses before the world testifying of our authenticity as Christians (a new Nation).

“A new commandment I give unto you: that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are My disciples: if you have love one for another.” - John 13:34-35 KJV

Allow “where we are going” to define who we are (citizens of Heaven); not “where we have been.”

God so loved the World

I had the opportunity to hear Shane Claiborne speak at Bethel Fellowship today; and while I probably wouldn’t hold to all his views, I thought he was a very provocative speaker for Christ. From his message, the most profound image I walked away with was that God loves the world. What I mean is; there are no exceptions to the statement of John 3:16.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16

Why did God omit the portion of that statement that would be in agreement with our human nature, “except for the bad people” or “except for all evildoers?” It is so easy for us to say, “God loves the world except for… people like”:

Adolf Hitler
Osama bin laden
Muslims
The Unsaved
Abortionists
Homo sexuals
Divorced individuals
People in other churches
Druggies and Alcoholics
People who surf the Internet for porn
People who hate their neighbors
Anyone who has ever stolen
Anyone who has ever lied

An argumentative person
A Sinner

Rather, what I find in scripture is:

(1) Christ is a friend of Sinners (meaning brining salvation to all) - Matthew 11:19, Luke 7:34

(2) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we (no exceptions) were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Including you & me)” - Romans 5:8

I know that the point is; all of us deserve condemnation, but God loves us all enough to give us the Lamb (Jesus) as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.

(3)Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.- 1 John 3:4

(4) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Romans 3:23-3:26

(5) For the wages of sin (all and every sin) is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23

The more amazing thing to see here is that salvation through Jesus is offered to everyone, including you and me. No matter who we are, if we turn to God for forgivness we will not be refused. “…that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” No one is beyond salvation, being saved, or being pleasing before our God. God loves us! God loves you!!!

I survived my first heart attack!

Here is a tool I found useful and note worthy yesterday. It’s a small Startup.exe Program/Shell applet created by “Mike Lin at http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml” that fixes “boot/Start-up” issues.

At work we imaged an operating system to speed up laptop rollouts. While most of the images proved successful, about ten of them had an ATI folder open up at startup. Even if we unchecked the application in the “System Configuration Utility” (msconfig.exe) / “Startup” tab; the folder would continue to appear. After installing and running this tool on one of the “C” drives; I unchecked the reference to ATI and the folder miraculously went away. I’m thinking about rolling it out on the other machines as well.

When “Windows Update” fails to install on Win XP Service Pack 2 machines

Most of the PCs I work on are Win XP Service Pack 2 machines. Just the other day I happened to have two laptops that would not install the Window’s updates after downloading them. When (Google) searching for a solution, I came across a link that solved the problem on both machines. Apparently, all I had to do was re-register the dll files associated with the Windows update process. Here are the files, text, and the links.

This may help fix a corrupt installer:

1. Click on Start and Run,
2. Type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and press
Enter.
3. Should get the message "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded"
Click OK.
4. Repeat above for each of the following:

REGSVR32 ATL.DLL

The other day, as we sat down to dinner my seven year old (soon to be eight in a month) desired to pray. It went something like this:

“Dear Jesus; thank you for this day and thank you for our family. I pray my daddy doesn’t have another heart-attack, I pray my Mom doesn’t have a heart-attack. I pray that Samara and I don’t have any heart-attacks. And I pray that I die first, before my Dad, because I would miss him too much.”

I had to share. I am blessed above many other men, for I am loved with such love as this child’s heart.

What do you feel should be required for an item of nature (humans included) to deserve moral consideration? Post your criteria as a response to this message. Also, take some time to read and respond to the ideas posted by your classmates.

Well, knowing that each of us has such varying positions on this subject, I can feel comfortable expressing my opinion too. I have a Judeo-Christian framework from which I build my beliefs, ideas, and opinions. I also recognize that just because others may have the same framework, that does not grantee that they will agree with my views. With that said, I respect each person’s opinion because two people cannot stand in the same shoes at the same time (each person has the right to believe what they wish).

First, I believe each human (determined by DNA) has God given rights, the same rights that extend to all of humanity. Being moral agents by nature (as designed), and being fearfully and wonderfully made, every individual is owed respect regardless of global origin, skin tone, language, size, sex, abilities, financial status, or any levels of perfection (because no one is perfect). Furthermore, just because a person may not hold to this view that does not give me the right to exclude them from the rights owed them. This is why moral consideration should be extended to only one race; the human race.

Now, humans as stewards. Because all things have been given to us, we all have the important task of caring for our entire environment with respect (as we would a gift, or something on lone). The world is not ours to trash at will.

Concerning animals; commonsense tells us that torturing or mutilating other life forms is wrong. Therefore, killing or destroying just for the sake of pleasure must be discouraged. However, as animals are on the food chain of other animals (and predators do not consider their prey in any moral sense), I do not find any wrong doing with proper farming, hunting and eating of animals.

Concerning animal habitats (deforesting); we need to find balance with:

Caring for every species (for they are a work of the Master craftsmen) with preserving environmental balance (this means balance in keeping disease and parasitical element at bay when they pose a threat to human and environmental preservation).
Harvesting resources and replenishing those resources (tree farming).
Managing these resources with economic trends.
Minimizing pollution.
Preserving resources because it is the most responsible thing to do for generations that follow, and the respectful thing to do for our gift called the environment.

President Bush has recently proposed that we begin to explore for oil off of the U.S. coast. Is this a viable solution? If it is looked at from the perspective of reducing fuel costs, then I would say no. If from the perspective of ensuring long term reserves while we continue to investigate alternative fuel supplies, then I would say yes.

Absolutely and unequivocally not. I believe it would be a step in the continually (same old, same old) wrong direction. Here is an analogy:

An American parent as been feeding their family hamburgers everyday for 25 years at a restaurant over the Mexican border. In the last 5 years, a doctor has discovered that the whole family will only live another 8 years if they continue to be fed in that way. The parent is now given the choice: (a) Farm vegetables out of there own garden which would mean a change in lifestyle and adding 30 more years of life to the family. Or: (b) Spend valuable time looking for a restaurant locally to buy more hamburgers, before getting serious planting the garden.

Question: Do we really think the parent will start the garden in a timely fashion (if start at all), once they find a restaurant to supply all the family’s burger needs? More likely, the parent and family will not change their lifestyle out of convenience and financial stability; and, will die in 8 years.

If America does not make a lifestyle change by harvesting healthier, renewable energy resources within her own borders, she will waste her time, life, and money looking to consume herself out of existence within her own nationhood.

I haven’t heard of it before today; however, I know it is a step in the right direction. So much of our lives involve chemicals, and this is only one aspect of the possible danger we encounter daily. I believe that the years of exposure to numerous elements contribute to health and environmental problems. From petroleum based products, plastics, chemicals, insecticides, including all the natural things we encounter, over time will rob us of life.

Plastics and other petroleum based chemicals are most likely the cause of many reproductive problems in humans and animals; not to mention neurological development.

Personally, I don’t feel enough is being said in order to educate the public. Many people feel that environmentalist are radicals (or tree huggers) more concerned for animals than people. Acid rain is a problem affecting many cities in the United States and other countries. What are the impacts of acid rain and what should we do to minimize its impact if any?

As we continue to spew toxins and chemicals into the air, what goes up eventually comes down. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are pumped into the air by way of fossil fuel emissions (Vehicle=Fuel and smokestack=coal), which travel miles away where precipitation brings it back to earth. Acid is a corrosive breaking down things in its path (metals, rocks, trees, plants, etc… http://epa-acid.notlong.com). It eats away at everything from buildings to life-forms. It breaks down minerals and other food sources which affect those life-forms that depend on them. Everything from birds, fish, insects, animals, and people are all affected by its destruction.

I just thought of something profound about humans that animals are smart enough not to do (in most cases); “Bite the hand that feeds them.” In essence, we are trashing the environment that supports our lives. Not too smart!

Here are things we can do to improve our world:

Disposal of nuclear waste?

We are just recently realizing the impacts of improper disposal of hazardous waste as well as overuse of certain insecticides on the environment as well as the ecosystem. We are now looking at how and where to begin disposal of nuclear waste. What should be considered when identifying disposal methods and/or disposal sites?

After reading chapter 12, the sound of the statement, “We are now looking at how and where to begin disposal of nuclear waste.” causes me total disgust. It is so hard to comprehend that the disposal of waste with the most toxic proportions was not set in stone before building the first nuclear power plant. This is clear insanity! Moreover, some of what the chapter expresses is that we have come a long way in precautionary measures since “Three Mile Island” http://T-M-I.notlong.com and “Chernobyl” http://cbc-nws.notlong.com; however, how can this be justified with the evidence in the Environews clip stating what Russia is continuing to do? I just have to rant and say it is appalling.

Obviously, when considering methods of disposal, the least destructive to the environment needs to be the answer (no matter what the cost). It sure would be nice to blast it off into the sun or some foreign star but that would be near imposable and too dangerous. So, apart from that idea; deep underground disposal seems the most promising (on the path to decommissioning/dismantling every plant that exists – my comment). However, it must be contained in the best possible way, to reduce radiation leakage and contamination of the environment.

One thing to consider here class is the log-term accumulation of long-term (half-life) radiant nuclear waste. The more we create, the more we have to manage over long periods of time. Are the generations that follow us (thousands of years down the road) going to be able to handle the mess we are creating for them? Do we even care? Sometimes I really don’t believe we are smarter than the animals. No animal alive or dead has left our human generation with the type of problems we are creating for the life-forms that come after us.

From time to time, we all wonder what God’s will is for us. What does He expect me to do in this specific situation?

Do I take the new job? Say yes to a date? Which school is best? Is this the right person to marry? Do I speak up or keep quiet? Is this a situation I should get involved in? Am I supposed to be single or married? Do I say “yes” or “no” to the kids this time?

Wouldn’t it be neat if we had a direct line to God so we always knew the answers to our specific questions?? What if I told you that we do. That God doesn’t want us to wonder about what we should do. That God wants me to know his specific will for me!

That would be pretty cool, wouldn’t it?!?!?

That’s why I am so excited about our services this weekend! We’ll be kicking off our new study, “Frequently Asked Questions” by answering the question, “How can I know God’s will?”

Our services will include worship that’ll inspire you, a drama that’ll make you laugh, and a talk that’ll give you the ability to understand how you can know God’s will for your life. These will be really neat services that you won’t want to miss. Promise.

Sorry for not keeping my site up to date; but, as you probably already know, life can be a bit time consuming.

On June 16th (just seven weeks ago), I was helping good friends move to West Virginia. I ended up breaking my left wrist when I tripped and fell. To make a long story short, the doctor in WV did a wonderful job setting the bone, I spent only six weeks in a cast, and I have gained 75 to 80 percent mobility this week. I know a miracle when I see one. From my understanding, it takes many more than seven weeks to recuperate from this type of break. Thank you, Jesus!!! And thanks to everyone who has kept me in their prayers and thoughts. I am already playing the guitar again!

Now I’ve seen everything. Two weeks ago one of our users got a blue screen on his laptop and came running to get me. When I got to his computer I rebooted and found the “C” drive not recognized; nothing was accessible. Knowing the hard-drive was shot; I quickly gave him a replacement desktop, took the laptop and swapped out the drive for a new one. The next day I started reloading the OS and apps he’d need and began to examine the dead drive.

After having a conversation with the user he realized that there was data on the drive that was extremely important. So, I used a USB to IDE/ATA & SATA cable to see if I could mount the drive on my own laptop. My Windows XP machine began to install the hardware but came to an abrupt halt. It fell short of mounting so I tried the same thing on three other computers; still no success. I finally had to break the news to the user that the data was most likely irretrievable.

Knowing the importance of this data to the user I started banging around many of the outrageous HDD story’s that I’ve heard with another tech. Figuring that the drive was toast, and having nothing more to lose, we decided on two possible solutions; banging it, which didn’t work, and placing it in a freezer for about an hour which also failed to get the drive going. Finally, I asked my boss who heads the IT department if he had any ideas; all he said was place the drive aside for two weeks and try mounting it then. He had some strange experience with hard drives coming to life after letting them sit for two weeks.

Two weeks to the day of its death, I tried mounting it to my laptop the exact same way I did two weeks before and presto. I heard the drive kick up speed and it began to mount. Immediately after the OS recognized the drive I didn’t waste any time and pulled the data off to my desktop. That totally rocks; I then pushed all the data from my laptop right to the user’s repaired computer over the network.

The moral of the story: Some things aren’t meant to be understood, just put to practice. There were many high-fives and cheers that day, and from what I can tell, sometimes it’s best to do nothing when you’re faced with a problem. You never know; things just might work out anyway.

Just a note to append to this topic: We had an un-mountable hard drive that sounded like crunching glass when attempting to access it. Nothing we did would allow us to mount it in a Windows environment. I gave the drive to Corey (by boss) and he was able to mount and access the drive on a Linux OS laptop; WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. Go figure? Are we surprised?

Having the opportunity to work with two, more than great tech guys “Corey & Cory”; I have the advantage of consuming a wealth of knowledge in a short period of time. Life has become a “Living” stereo podcast, and that’s so cool! Unfortunately; with such a grand ingesting of all things tech, I have found myself void() of the ability to share these treasureous wonders. Moreover, I can hardly contain myself having to incase all my learning in such a tiny space (my brain); therefore, leakage is inevitable. So, before I lose track of what I wanted to say…

A few weeks ago our company rolled out the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE) v.7. Since then we have noticed complaints as to HTML features within Office 2003’s Outlook; particularly with printing. This set the team on a headhunt for the reason, or at least a fix. You see; many of our users need to print vital e-mail for hard copy record keeping. After upgrading to the newest version of IE, it seems either the Headers are gone or Font type is illegible on some of the documents. So much for the ability of keeping track of messages. Ah… before we lose hope.

Cory; while troubleshooting the Font issue found a solution to both problems all with only one checkbox. This is from an e-mail he sent:

This is specifically what "John Doe" was experiencing-when printing, the font prints out microscopic, like font size 2 or 4 or something. There is a “fix” as described below. Go to tools, options. On the preferences tab, click email options, and then check the box that reads “read all standard mail in plain text”:

I found this to also fix the “Memo Style” Header printing issue.
